Dr. Trevor Kauer (NREMT-B, PhD) is a researcher/storyteller with expertise in first responders' sensemaking, meaning-making, (un)supportive communication, and coping. His experience working in EMS informs his scientific research on the practicality, efficacy, and accessibility of using stories/storytelling and narrative interventions to improve the lives of first responders and their families. He has also published a number of peer-reviewed research studies that translate research into evidence-based empirically-driven interventions, exercises, and resources to aid first responders in managing difficulty associated with a high-reliability occupation, and partnered with departments and organizations across the nation to improve the well-being of first responders and their families. He holds a PhD in Interpersonal, Family, and Health Communication from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and works as a Lecturer and Researcher in the research lab Narrative Nebraska.
