In this session, led by Dr. Peter Antevy, MD, attendees will explore five crucial protocol changes and debunking unsound research in EMS. Topics covered include the benefits of Double Sequential Defibrillation for refractory ventricular fibrillation, negative effects of hyperventilation, risks of administering cardiac arrest dose epinephrine in pediatric bradycardia, and how EMS organizations can collaborate with hospitals to enhance pediatric outcomes. Participants will also learn about the effectiveness of Ketamine for refractory seizures and advantages of using whole blood for trauma cases. Lastly, the importance of implementing Double Sequential External Defibrillation and utilizing distal femoral intraosseous access for pediatric arrest interventions will be highlighted. The presentation will conclude by emphasizing the significance of adopting these advancements and encouraging further research in EMS practice.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the benefit of Double Sequential Defibrillation in refractory ventricular fibrillation
Understand the negative physiology associated with hyperventilation
Explain why cardiac arrest dose epinephrine is harmful in pediatric bradycardia
Describe how EMS organizations can collaborate with hospitals to improve pediatric outcomes
