Matthew Shields Firefighter NRP CCP has been a Paramedic for 20 years in many aspects of the Fire and EMS. Matthew has been an instructor for 15 years in initial certification courses for EMS and Firefighting. Matthew has worked extensively with colleagues on development of critical care medical protocol for a 911 based Fire and EMS department. These protocols cover a wide range of care that has been modified for the fire department based EMS system, utilizing treatment and medications, traditionally reserved for air medical transport. Matthew currently holds the rank of Captain for Fauquier County Fire and Rescue, serving as an EMS supervisor utilizing critical care medicine in both rural and suburban territory, with 660 square miles and a population of approximately 75,000.
